Eight-valve engine
built on a short 79-in. Wheelbase, the type 13 was based on the type 10 prototype bugatti made at cologne in 1909 just before he opened his factory in molsheim. The four-cylinder engine had two overhead valves per cylinder. A propellor shaft connected the drive to the rear axle. The type 13 was first exhibited in paris in december 1910. The type 15 had a 94 12-in. Wheelbase and the type 17 a 100 12-in. One. (they were renamed the type 22 and 23, respectively, in 1913.) some 435 of these cars were made, most of them before the outbreak of world war i.

bugatti production resumed in 1919 with a newr engine increased in cylinder bore and with four valves per cylinder. A type 13 won the small cars cup at le mans in 1920. In the 1921 italian grand prix for small cars, type 13s won the first
four places, and henceforth all three of these bugatti types of prewar origin were known as brescias. About 2,000 were sold, some 40 of them for racing.
