The stuff of dreams
when it was introduced in 1953, the corvette represented pioneering efforts in the use of fiberglass bodywork. The power unit was chevrolets venerable blue flame six fitted with triple carburetors in the pursuit of better acceleration. The unavailability of a manual transmission was the worst aspect of the car.

Then came a manual transmission and the styling modifications that raised the early vettes to their iconic status in the minds of contemporary collectors. The simpler approach employed on the first corvettes was dismissed in favor of a sculpted design for the 1956 cars, which exhibited more prominent headlights and sweeping side coves that were
emphasized by contrasting color panels. The entire car was sensually articulated from its chrome grille to its bulbous rear fenders. With the more aggressive look came extra power 283 hp with indirect fuel injection by 1957.
Possibly the definitive american roadster, the 1957 corvette had both inimitable style and plenty of power. |
