| | About vehicle Hollywood favorite
although chrysler made a few town country station wagons during 1941-42, the tcs real debut was as a sedan and convertible between 1946 and 1948 in the top-of-the-line new yorker series. Its rustic chic gained favor in hollywood, where one cowboy actor mounted a steers head on the hood of his convertible, wiring the eyes to blink for left and right turns. In 1949, the tc was a convertible only.
rustic chic
the white-ash woodwork interspersed with body panels over an all-steel body on the 1950 town country was largely decorative rather than, as in the past, structural, but it remained of high quality and was beautifully finished. The interior was in a choice of green or tan leather and silver-gray nylon cord. The carpeting was all wool. The 1950 model was one of the first cars with all-
wheel disc brakes as standard. At a base price of $4,003, it was one of the most expensive of detroits 1950 closed cars. Only 700 were produced. Starting in 1951, the only chrysler town country was a station wagon in a lower-priced series The rustic appearance of the 1950 town country hardtop was deceiving, for this luxurious model was aimed at the gentry rather than dogpatch denizens. |
