Traditional design
dome made its first appearance at le mans with the curious rl zero, which was very long and narrow. The rl80 of 1980 was a more traditional car. Its designer, masao ono, reduced the zeros length by eight in. And increased the width by two in. The tubular chassis was reinforced by riveted panels, and the body was made of polyester. The cap roof, copied from the alpine-renault a442, remained. The engine was once again a ford-cosworth v8, but a planned toyota turbocharger was not ready.
