Founded at the beginning of the twentieth century in barcelona by swiss designer marc birkigt, in 1911 hispano-suiza moved to paris, where most of its subsequent cars were built. Eight years later, at the same time it was producing its famous aircraft engines, hispano-suiza threw itself into the production of automobile powerplants. Among the firms many legendary machines was the 1926 h6 c. It was as grand as a rolls-royce and as sophisticated as a mercedes-benz. . . And even more beautiful.

The hispano-suiza h6 b was a car fit for kings. Expensive. Elegant. Reliable. One spanish monarch, king alfonso xiii, became so valued a hispano-suiza client that the company named its 1912 series after him. Considered by some to be the first true sports car, the alfonso xiii paved the way for the later light and powerful h6 b machine. Construction on the alfonso began in france in 1911, at a factory in levallois-perret, but was transferred in 1914 to bois-colombes. The best was yet to come.

The tide of rearmament that swept across europe in the early thirties meant that the paris factory of hispano-suiza at bois-colombes was building fewer cars and more airplane engines and rapid-fire cannons. Following world war i, hispano technical director marc birkigts automotive masterpiece had been the 1919 h6, but those glory days were fading fast.

Horch 670 - 1931-1934

Horch 670 - 1931-1934
In 1931 germany was descending into an economic depression, but horch, which built high-quality automobiles, chose this unpropitious moment to introduce the enormous 670, which was expensive to buy and costly to maintain. Only about 80 chassis for this three-ton white elephant were ever built, and just 54 received bodies.
