Time of crisis
the seventies were a time of crisis for aston. With his tractor business in trouble, david brown, who had run the company since world war ii, was forced to sell out in late 1971 to company developments limited. The fuel crisis two years later brought aston martin to its knees, and the company was placed in receivership. It was subsequently and fortunately refinanced by an americancanadian consortium.
the 10,000th car
stability did not arrive until 1980, when victor gauntlett and peter livanos acquired aston martin. In 1984, aston, after more than 60 years of existence, built its 10,000th car a v8 appropriately registered am v8. in 1987, the company was acquired by ford perhaps the last decision authorized by heniy ford ii before his death and the new virage arrived three
years later. The v8 was produced at a rate of some four cars a week. Every engine carries the name of the craftsman who built it.
