Swept away
with the new model, gone wras the traditional buick sweepspear. Gone were the trademark portholes. The fins flaring outward from the rear deck of the new buicks were called delta wings like many of its other features, these seem amusingly excessive from todays perspective, but in their time they were considered very stylish. Indeed, motor trend magazine named the 1959 invicta the industrys best-looking car overall, as well as the best-looking wagon.
style points
mechanical modifications were made as well: A larger 401-cubic-inch engine was installed, the brake system was improved with the addition of air cooling to the rear drums, and the new power steering required less than two-and-a-half pounds of effort to turn the wheel. Still, the
invicta will be remembered most for its broad concessions to lavish public taste.
