Its english-sounding name adopted to suit the snobbery of turf-racing fanciers, derby began making automobiles in 1921. The marques last model had frontwheel drive, fully independent suspension and an unusual two-litre v8 engine. Sales probably did not pass 30 before the company went out of business.

derby technical director etienne lepicard designed the v8 engine, which had the cylinder heads in an f pattern, with overhead inlet and side exhaust valves.
