dodge entered the performance sweepstakes in 1962 by offering the max wedge 413 v8 engine as an option for the dart. It sported wedge-shaped combustion chambers and dual four-barrel carter afb carburetors that were set over a short-ram intake manifold. For 1963, the bore was increased to give this engine 426 cu. In., and the port areas of each cyclindewere expanded. These and other changes enabled the new ramcharger so named for the rams-horn sweep of its exhaust headers to reach 425 hp.

the ramcharger was available in any 1963 or 1964 dodge except the dart, but it was especially effective in the polara, dodges top-of-the-line series. A special high-performance sports model, the polara 500, available as a
hardtop coupe or convertible, included bucket seats, padded instrument panel, deluxe steering wheel and special wheel covers. Tloe classy polara, dodges most expensive series, included the high-performance 500 sports model that was well suited to the powerful ramcharger 426 v8 engine. |
