| | About vehicle Hatchback and convertible
built on a 97-in. Wheelbase, this front-wheel-drive all-new compact made its debut for 1987 and promptly racked up the second highest production total for a dodge model. A three- or five-door hatchback sedan, the shadow displayed, however, a notchback rather than a hatchback profile. A convertible was added for 1991. From the shadows inception, its base engine was a 2.2-litre four-cylinder, with a slightly bigger four-cylinder one optional. In 1992 a three-litre mitsubishi-built v6 became an option for the shadow es.
ready to roar
in its glory years, the es performance package included a front airdam, rear spoiler, front fender flares for wider tires, all-disc brakes, suspension refinements and an optional 174hp variable-
nozzle turbocharged engine designed for quicker throttle response to cut the lag in turbo response. This engine was only available during the 1990-91 model years. Purportedly americas cheapest car, the shadow was also among the liveliest with the es performance package and sue. |
