| | About vehicle More abarth than fiat
the berlina corsa (italian for racing sedan ) was a four-passenger production car as well as a racing model. Built on a 79-in. Wheelbase, less than 12 ft. Long, very light and with the trunk always open, it employed the bodyshell and running gear of the fiat 600. Its suspension was fully independent. The problem of cooling the rear-mounted engine was resolved by installing a very large oil sump and a front oil radiator.
highly tuned engine
abarths engines came in various stages of tune. The ordinary 1000 berlina corsa engine had a side-cam engine, a two-barrel carburetor and delivered 88 hp. The buyer who wanted to race the automobile got a twin-overhead-cam engine
with dual two-barrel carburetors that delivered 110 hp. The fiat abarth 1000 berlina corsa was a two-door, four-passenger sedan that could be distinguished from its parent fiat 600 by its radiator and the open trunk. |
