About vehicle
Small but roomy the simca 1000 was the last rear-engine, rear-drive french car, its small 944cc, four-cylinder engine situated behind the rear axle. Although the sharp-edged body, inspired by the chevrolet corvair, was built on a wheelbase of only 87 in., its box)- shape afforded a roomy interior that could seat four adult passengers comfortably. The simca 1000 undercut the popular citroen ami 6 in price and offered veiy stiff competition in the marketplace for renaults dauphine and r8. later models for 1963 the 1000 sedan was joined by a coupe with longer rear quarter windows and a rakish roofline, elegantly bodied by bertone. This car attracted the attention of the italian engine-tuning specialist carlo abarth, who developed the twin-cam simca abarth 1300 in 1963.
Short and square, the simca 1000 sedan won no awards for looks, but it was cheap and practical seating four adults in comfort
