Germany was the birthplace of the automobile, and dr. August horch, who had worked at the original horseless carriage factory, certainly had a classic automotive education. But in 1900, eager to try out his own ideas, horch left his mentors (carl benz and paul daimler, who were responsible for the significant successes of the mercedes-benz firm), struck out on his own and started the company whose elegant machines made an original mark on automotive histoiy.
