For 1949, industrialist henry j. Kaiser stole a march on his big three rivals by introducing a four-door hardtop convertible actually a sedan that resembled a convertible. One could argue that it was not a true hardtop either, because it had fixed side-window frames. In 1969 a joint venture between the soviet union and the italian automaker fiat began producing a sedan for export called the lada 2101, based on the fiat 124.
