Runabout Spider - 1907

Runabout Spider - 1907
Founded in paris in 1902, the sage firm was known for the high quality of its automobiles, which were aimed at a well-heeled clientele. The imposing runabout shown here, now exhibited at the national automobile museum in mulhouse, france, was equipped with the side-valve four-cylinder engine of the mutel marque. The three-speed transmission had chain final drive. The body, built in 1906, offered a rear seat as well as two front ones.

Ruxton - 1929-1930
One of the earliest frontwheel-drive cars, the ruxton was named for a stockbroker who, in the end, declined to invest in it. He had a good reason: The stock market crash of 1929 did not create a good economic climate for a new luxury car. And there was another problem -at first, there was no factory to build the car. Furthermore, e.l. Cords new frontwheel-drive l29 beat the ruxton to the marketplace. Somehow the venture got off the ground, but fewer than 500 ruxtons were made.

Salmson S4-61 - 1938-1951
Faced with lower demand for its airplane engines after world war i, salmson turned to building sports cars during the twenties. In 1929, the company changed directions once again and decided to concentrate on touring cars. The first of these the salmson s4 appeared at the 1929 paris salon, where its double-overhead-cam engine distinguished it from its rivals.
