| | About vehicle Lighter and faster
the sz used the standard chassis components of the sprint but was built on the 89-in. Spyder wheelbase instead of the 93-in. Sprint one. Like the veloce models, it had the more powerful version of the giulietta 1.3-litre four-cylinder engine, but with added oomph from tighter valves and timing of the twin overhead camshafts for more overlap. The transmission had five speeds, and the 100-litre fuel tank was good for more than 600 miles of motoring.
round or square tail
the eggshell-thin body by zagato was compact and bulbous. Most, but not all, had recessed headlights. The first round tail series gave way to a later square tail with a truncated kamm-effect rear end for greater aerodynamism. Only some 30 of these szs were produced. This second series received disc brakes in place of
drums. Like the other giuliettas, the sz was very responsive in steering and braking. Bodied by zagato, the sz two-seat coupe was the fastest version of the alfa romeo giulietta. It was the car to beat in small-engine gt competition. |
