About vehicle
Placed on a diet the four 1959 corsair models sedan, two- and four-door hardtops and convertible were now eight inches shorter than the previous years two-and four-door hardtops. The new ford-based chassis had crossmembers modified for edsel bodies, and the corsair convertible had an additional crossbraced frame. Both v8 engines the standard 332-cu.-in. And the optional 361-cu.-in. Super-express were smaller than 1958s 410, although they featured high-lift cams. Dual exhausts were standard for the convertible and optional for the other models. the horse collar remains for 1959, the edsel was more conservative in styling. The controversial horse-collar central element of the grille was retained but it was less prominent, and the chrome-bordered side panels, often set off in a second color, were much narrower this time. The convertible had a vinyl-coated top and all-vinyl interior in a choice of four colors, while the other corsairs had vinyl-and-cloth interiors in a choice of six colors.
Corsair was edsels top series for 1959. These downscaled, more conservative models failed to click with the public despite a price cut.
