| | About vehicle All-new vehicle
except for its ford-cosworth three-litre dfv v8 engine, the matra ms80 was totally new. This aluminum-sheet monocoque bulged at the waist to accommodate its fuel tanks, which had been increased to a capacity of 210 litres. The front suspension was placed outside the bodyshell to prevent overheating. Ventilated rear disc brakes were fastened to the new rear-suspension layout, and a large rear airfoil was mounted on the suspension uprights.
world champion
stewart won the south african grand prix and the silverstone international trophy in the ms 10 before switching to the new car. He went on to win the spanish, dutch, french, british and italian grand prix and was second in the german event. Driving the other ms80 car, jean-pierre
beltoise finished second in the french and third in the italian race. The 1970 ms120 was similar to the ms80 but had rubber-bag fuel tanks to meet newr racing regulations. Jackie stewart is shown here in the british grand prix, one of the five 1969 grand prix events he won driving a matra ms80. |
